MY NAME IS { laura 'x-23' kinney }
but some people know me better as { t a l o n }
When people see me, they notice...
Laura Kinney is actually pretty short, standing at five foot one. She weights a whopping one hundred and ten pounds, though if you take out the adamantium, she loses ten of that. Her skin is somewhat tanned and has a few scars from where she ended up healing slower than she was supposed to. Her hair is long and staight, black in color though occasionally she puts stripes if blue or red in it. Her eyes, naturally, are a brilliant green color, though when triggered by the trigger scent, her eyes turn red, like a deep burning fire, and she seems to lose herself completely for a short time.
When they talk to me, though, they might make note of...
X-23, or Laura as she would later be called, didn't grow up in what would be considered an ideal lifestyle. And while she had a mother who tried to help her child retain some form of her humanity, Laura was emotionally stunted from a young age. She wasn't allowed to act in the same manner most children were and, given that any of her advances as a child were denied, how was she expected to really be all that normal? When she speaks, she uses proper english, rarely ever using slang terms or curses to express herself. At times, she seems a bit quiet and, occasionally, she still suffers from depression, though it's not as bad as it used to be. Cutting herself isn't something she does often anymore but old habits can die very hard, especially when you know you can't really kill yourself. She has never learned to properly express her sadness. Hell, most emotions, even though she's slowly coming to terms with them, are still a bit confusing to her and she has a bad habit of trying to distance herself from them.
While occasionally quiet, her low-self esteem has vanished and she's grown to become quite the headstrong woman. She tries to remain calm in any situation she is put into, considering the fact that she is so highly trained. She doesn't want to hurt people but, while she's trying to steer away from it, she occasionally still succumbs to instinct when it comes to occasionally killing.
Laura's social skills still aren't the greatest but she's slowly learning. She can be a bit strict when it comes to her students, wanting the best for them, which can be a bit off putting at times. She's happier than she used to be, and she's slowly starting to try and be the mother she should have been. Albeit twenty one years too late. She doesn't allow people to control her anymore. Though she doesn't always speak her mind, when she does talk to people, she remains honest and a bit blunt. That is, when she actually thinks talking to them is a good idea. She's more likely to talk to her students, trying ti remain a positive role model for them. Interactions with others are something she's working on, doing better and better with it. Considering her checkered, vicious past, though, she wouldn't be surprised if people still didn't trust her. But she doesn't care that much. She knows she's loyal, knows she's changed, and knows she's doing what she can't to be a better person. She's got a long life ahead of her, she knows that. No need for it to be as terrible as the start of it.

The things I'm good at? Glad you asked...
Laura was raised up to become the perfect weapon and, because of this, she has a lot of combative skills. Trained in military tactics, she is a highly skilled strategist. She was trained in a number of different martial arts, has a good few survival skills, and is fluent in a few languages, such as french and italian. She's skilled with maneuvering a motorcycle as well as plane piloting.
But I'm not completely perfect...
What she has in fighting talent and awesome powers, she lacks in social skills. She wasn't raised in a good environment and doesn't necessarily know how to properly interact with people, even after thirty years. As is proof of her lacking relationship with her son and, well, the fact that she isn't necessarily with his father anymore. She suffers from occasional bouts of depression as well that lead to self-harm. This has become rare over the years, it is still her go to when she's under insane amounts of stress and depression or trauma.
I guess you want to know about what sets me apart from most of the population, huh? Well...
Laura is an artificially created mutant, a clone to be precise, of the famed Logan Howlett. Being that she is his clone, her power set is practically an exact match. Her main power is the claws she has. Uniquely, unlike Wolverine's, she only has two claws in each of her hands. Even more uniquely, she has one in each of her feet, a grand total of six claws. The claws themselves were once extracted from her body, dipped in adamantium, and reattached, meaning that only her claws are unbreakable. They're sharp, coming from between her pinky and ring finger and her index and middle finger. On her feet, it comes out right in the middle of her toes. She has to keep her ankles out straight when she extends those in order to make sure it doesn't hurt so much and extends with ease. Otherwise, she could potentially break her ankle or the claw can break through the skin a whole lot sooner.
As far as secondary mutations are concerned, she has a few. Her senses, for one, are heightened to far beyond even animalistic expectations. She can distinguish people from their scents and not just that, but can even pick up on their emotions due to the distinctions created by pheromones. She can follow someone's scent for miles as it leaves a trail. So long as it's fresh that is. The older the trail, the harder it can be to follow. Her sense of sight is as sharp as a hawks. She can see with perfect clarity much farther than a normal human. Not only that, but her perfect clarity isn't just in day, though. No, she can see perfectly in the darkest of nights as well. She can hear so sharply, she could not only hear a pin drop, she could pinpoint where it fell as well. When she eats, shr can distinguish each of the indiviual flavors in something as well. Where most taste the mixture of it all, she can taste each part of it. Like in, say, a hamburger, she can taste each of the seasonings, the cheese, the onion, the lettuce and tomato, thr purity of the beef itself. Hell, she could taste the chemicals in the meat (albeit, they'll be a bit faint) if it was messed with. And while having all these senses at their heighest could be seen as grand, the drawback comes with her sense of touch. Even that's heightened, but over the years, she had managed to dull that with the cutting, the constant use of her claws, everything has helped to dull her sense of touch and heighten her tolerance to pain.
Another of her secondary mutations is her ability to heal at accelerated rates. She can not only heal at alarmingly quick rates, but she can reattatch her limbs if they're severed and, even more, grow back entire parts of her body if need be. It just takes quite a bit if time. Her healing, for the most part, is actually faster than Logan's. This is because, unlike Logan, her entire body doesn't have adamantium in it, just her claws. And without as much adamantium to slow her healing down, she can heal some wounds almost instantaneously. However, her healing is also somewhat reliant on her psychological state. In the heat of battle, her wounds heal almost instantaneously. However, it's been seen time and time again that, when she used to cut herself, her wounds were visable for quite some time, healing slowly. Occasionally, they could start healing slower than the usual person, though that was always during times of extreme depression. Her healing factor also makes her practically immune to pretty much any poisons and drugs, making it impossible to get high or drunk. However, never say never as if enough of any drug is used (such as tranqs), they effect her like they would anyone else. Her immune system is also heightened because of her healing factor, making her immune to every disease and infection found on earth. Alien infections and diseases aren't as clear cut. And with her body constantly healing and regenerating, she remains young and will very likely live for centuries. Just like her template, Logan, has.
Lastly, she has a superhuman physiology. Her muscles don't produce mearly as many fatigue toxins, allowing her to exert herself at her peak conditions for a whole twenty four hours before she even begins to start feeling a bit of fatigue in her body and it can start to impair her. If she isn't going at her fullest potential, she can keep going for a bit longer. Her agility, including her coordination and balance and enhanced way farther than even the best of athletes, aiding in dodging, sneaking, and overall fighting in some cases. Her reflexes are to the point where they are pretty much cat-like. Where durability was concerned, she's been known to be able to fight people like the hulk without sustaining much in the way of injuries. Then again, when you heal as fast as she does, what did you expect?

Awesome, right? Well, not all the time...
One of her biggest power weaknesses doesn't even come directly from her powers. No, rather, it comes from what had been done to her when she was young and being raised. A special 'trigger scent', as it was called, was used to trigger her into a berserker rage. During these times, she can't control herself and she starts to kill without mercy. The effects of the special pheromone only last so long, of course, and she could occasionally overpower it. Still, when it was used, she did things she never wanted to, killed people she didn't mean to kill. In all honesty, it's terrifying to her. Thankfully, most of the people who could use it weren't exactly around anymore.
The next biggest weakness that comes from her powers is, well, actually, once again not entirely the powers fault. No, rather, it's because of the adamantium. Because of the fact that it's only her claws dipped in the stuff, the rest of her bones are still 'weak' bones. Bones that snap and break if she hits something too hard with her claws. On top of that, when she extends her claws, especially the two in her feet, she has to be careful in case she breaks something or hurts herself doing so. The adamantium causes another issue, though. Where her claws come out seems to heal slower than the rest of her. There are chemicals in adamantium that mess with her healing.

If you see me out in the street, you'd notice I wear...
When she dresses, she tends to wear clothes she finds comfortable. She isn't much of a girly girl and often likes wearing jeans or stretchy pants. Her shirts are often tight fitting and darker in color. Bright shirts aren't really her thing. She just wants to be comfortable really and, unless she has to dress fancy, she's not likely to. Even her old X-Factor costume, the one she still uses actually, is black in color with a few silver seams. It's a full body suit, tight fitting, and shoes that allow for her feet claws to extend and retract without damaging the outfit.
Maybe some of that comes from my past...
Laura's 'birth' wasn't exactly what people would call a normal one. She was given birth to, though, but conception wise, she was artificially created. You see, there is this place called the Facility, a sort of division off of the Weapon X Program. They wanted to recreate the mutant known as Wolverine. They had an imperfect sample to work off of and, after twenty two failed attempts, the human geneticist they had brought on to do this, a woman by the name of Sarah Kinney, decided to suggest instead allowing her the opportunity to recreate this clone as a female. This imperfect sample was missing a chromosome. It had always been missing one. And without that intact Y chromosome, she knew it would just keep failing. The director, Martin Sutter, denied her request. But she didn't really care. They wanted a Wolverine, so, she decided to go off of her idea of making the clone as a female. And when she produced a viable female subject, they let her continue on with the project. However, she wouldn't be doing so without some form of a punishment for disobeying her superior and became the surrogate mother for the girl who would one day be known as Laura Kinney.
At birth, she wasn't given a proper name. No, rather, she was called 'X-23' as she was the twenty third attempt at creating what had been made within the Weapon X Program. Born and raised within the Facility, was turned into a weapon, into a killing machine. She was taught how to fight, how to take care of herself, military tactics, and the like. Even with the costant battering and fighting, though, her mother tried to make sure that X-23 kept some form of humanity. Unfortunately, no matter what Sarah did to try and keep her daughter relatively human, nothing was going to save her from what they did when she became seven. Yes, seven years old. Rice, another of the scientists, and one who had a real big bone to pick with Wolverine for the death of his father, was pretty much X-23's actual handler. And, when she was seven, in order to make her mutation come forth, she was subjected to hours of torturous radiation until her claws came out. And, when they did, they were painfully extracted from her body and dipped them in adamantium before putting them back. During this time, Rice also started work to create a trigger scent that would throw the girl into a berserker rage and force her to kill as, originally, she didn't want to. She didn't want to be just some weapon. Who would? They wanted to make sure they had some control on her, however, and that chemical compound was the only way.
Three years after her mutation was forced, she was sent out on her first field mission. This mission was to go and kill the presidential candidate at the time, Greg Johnson. And, after that was a success, a vast number of missions followed. The clone was usually systematically sold to the highest bidder, an unwilling assassin that didn't get anything from her jobs and was constantly being set off by the trigger scent just to make her do those very jobs. This time in her life ended up leaving her somewhat emotionally stinted. One of the missions she was sent on had left her abandoned without a way to get back. Rice's hope was to get his revenge on Wolverine for his father's death by leaving his clone to die. She was the closes thing to a real Logan he had after all. The mission was supposedly a dangerous one but, overcoming extremely high odds of, well, death, she managed to survive and eventually returned straight to the Facility.
Her life soon took another change as Rice convinced Sutter to hand complete control of the program over to him. In order to make sure that Sutter couldn't change his mind or try to recreate this project, he had X-23 kill not just Martin, but his entire family. Soon after that, he fired Sarah Kinney, but not before he showed her that he had incubation pod after incubation pod of a number of the female clones. Sarah didn't like any of this, though and, before she properly fled, she gave the clone her last mission: kill Rice and destroy the pods. X-23 did succeed in her mission however, not without a cost. Rice was prepared for anything and, little did any of them know, he had exposed Sarah to the trigger scent and, when X-23 returned, the scent activated her berserker mode and she killed her mother. But, before she died, she gave her a proper name: Laura Kinney. She had a reason to name her Laura, though. After all, she was a clone of Logan. Laura was the only name that made sense to her.
It wasn't until two years after it all, that X-23, now named Laura, reappeared in the world in the city of New York. It was here a pimp named Zebra Daddy found her on the streets. During that time, she was employed as a prostitute. But, due to everything she had suffered, she had quite a few issues. First of which was self-mutilation. She didn't know how to cope with, well, anything and when stresses got high or she felt like she was in seriously threatening situations, she would wind up cutting herself with her own claws. But her problems didn't stop there. She was also mostly mute for that time. And, being mute and afraid of what she could do, she couldn't free herself from the pimp's grasps. It wasn't until she met another young mutant named Kiden Nixon that she started coming to her senses. Kiden was able to freeze time when she was in danger and, with the help of Kiden and her teacher, Laura rescued another mutant from an angry mob, a feral girl named Catiana. Laura had tried to get away from Zebra Daddy, but that didn't mean he wasn't trying to track her down. Thankfully, with the help of her new friend, a mutant named Felon, they were able to take down his thugs. In order to ensure her safety, and the safety of others, Laura killed Zebra Daddy.
After Zebra Daddy was out of the way, she got a job at Wannabee's, a mutant themed nightclub in Mutant Town, which was a mutant friendly distract of New York City. She ended up saving the daughter of a mob boss while working there from a gang whom she ended up killing to keep Don Parisi's daughter safe. But, due to the nature of the kills seemingly resembling Wolverine, the X-Men were called to investigate. The second she had seen Wolverine, instinct kicked in and she attacked him. It took a while, but he finally was able to calm her down and she then led them to the mob boss's daughter. She helped the X-Men with the Parisi's mutant enforcer before fleeing. She did eventually return to them in order to help with saving the victims of a very bad car accident and, from there, she enrolled at Xavier's.
Life wasn't easy for her, though who could expect it to be? She was one of the few mutants to retain her powers after M-Day. She helped with saving the depowered students and staff when they were attacked and, despite Emma Frost's best efforts to kick her to the curb, Laura passed when the remaining mutants were made to brawl in order to test them. There was a point in which she was a member of the X-Force due to her training and killing instinct though all of this was thirty years ago. Not much has really changed, at least with her personality. But she supposed enough has changed in her life over the years. She's not really retired from her life as a hero. Once an X-man, always an X-man, she supposed but she's currently a combat teacher, as well as helping to teach foreign languages, at Xavier's Institute. She has a child named Apollo, though they aren't really close. I guess you could say she doesn't know how to be a mother but she wants to try and do better. The only real problem.is that she doesn't really know how to.

You want to meet me? It's your lucky day - here's a sneak peek...
Laura stood back a few feet, watching as two of her students sparred. She liked testing them like this, being able to properly examine each strike, every single parry, dodge, counter. It gave her a better understanding of just what she needed to work on with them still. At the moment, though, they were doing rather well. She was almost convinced that these younger kids might be ready for a lower level drill in the danger room soon. Those were always quite a bit of fun, actually. She loved doing her classes there. The danger room itself was just an exciting venture for most young students. And it was always fun to watch their excitement. Not to mention, planning those lessons was always the best.
Bringing her focus back completely to the students, she began to frown. "Stop, both of you. You were doing so well, until you got too cocky. Alexis, you need to remember that you can't rely on your powers all the time. Don't think i didn't notice. It's good to know how to use them and I'm glad you're getting a better handle on things but this is not a powered sparring match," she said. It took a bit if effort to keep her voice from sounding harsh and tempered. Her eyes then turned to Alexis's partner. "And Samuel, how many times do i have to say a good offense is built from a good defense. Learn to block. It can give you an upper hand in a battle. Block, counter. Remember that."
The two students nodded their heads but she wasn't convinced that they had actually listened to her. "Now what did i say?" She asked. Alexis fiddled with her fingers, looking down as she spoke. "No using my powers unless instructed to..." Laura nodded at that then looked at Samuel. The boy tried to actually look at his instructor but he kept diverting his eyes away. "Defend and counter. A good offrense is made up by a good defense." Good, at least they were listening. She nodded again, though her frown remained on her lips.
She stood in silence a moment, making sure that it all sunk in before clapping her hands together. "Alright, you two, do a few laps around the room and then we'll get back to sparring. Got it?" Both kids were about to speak up, complain, but she snapped her fingers. "No arguing. Just do what i said. You wanna be big strong mutants someday, don't you?" They slowly nodded their heads and did as they were told, grumbling to themselves as they did so. Laura didn't let on that she could hear them. After all, they really should know better, but she'd let it slide. This time at least.
