In the Final Empire, the world is dying. The plants are brown, the sun is red, and ash falls almost constantly from the sky. At night, the mysterious mists come out. The world is ruled by a single man--known only as the Lord Ruler. The emperor is cruel and oppressive, but to his people he is a god. Immortal, all-powerful, all-knowing. When the Lord Ruler rose to power, he gifted his followers the power of allomancy, a type of magic fueled by metals. People have always feared the mists, but recently this fear stems from real events rather than frightening tales. Every night, the mists steal into Luthadeland take the life of one person. Sometimes a skaa, sometimes a noble, never with a pattern. No one is safe. The skaasay the mistwraithsare growing braver, coming to the cityto steal innocent souls. Others, mainly nobles in the city, claim that a band of Mistbornattack in the night, using the mists for cover. Rumors are flying among powerful nobles that even the Lord Ruler is worried.
The Terrismensay the gods are stirring. The presence of Ruin and Preservation, the center oftheir ancient belief system, is growing stronger. Who can sayif these strange occurrences are mysterious monsters, powerful allomancers, or the works of once dormant gods?
