MY NAME IS { jasper, mariennelle, collins }
but some people know me better as { g e c k o }
When people see me, they notice...
Given a tan complexion at birth, Jasper browns more when she's out in the sun long enough to tan. She has brown eyes that show off the tan quality of her skin, as well as freckles. Like most freckles, they show better when she's tanned, and she can go from looking like she barely has them to absolutely chock-full of freckles all of her arms, face, and back in a week or so, depending on how much sun she gets.
Her hair, usually short and with natural volume, is pretty straight unless she curls it or let's the wind dry it into curls, and she doesn't tend to do much with it, either, unless she's really trying to impress someone, or going out somewhere where she cares who sees her and how she looks. Keeping it so short has advantages; she can focus on clothes and action more, without having to worry about her hair getting in the way, or being a terribly noticeable mess or rat's nest of tangles like it gets when she lets it grow out.
Gecko's body is slender, on the skinny side of chubby - though she does have some fat, yes, she's not ashamed to admit or flaunt it - and when she's human, she has plenty of freckles to show off, though her skin is otherwise pretty acne-free. (She tries not to be smug about this, sometimes, but usually fails, especially when her classmates are complaining about their own bad skin and pimples.) When she turns on her mutation, whether by accident or design, Jasper's skin turn textured, much like a lizards'. So much like a lizard's skin, in fact, she's taken the name 'Gecko' - her skin, like a gecko's, allows her to run up and down walls and ceilings effortlessly, the ease of her animal-esque mutation helping her 'stick' to the wall/ceiling/glass/whatever she wants. It is also a light green color, making it stand out quite a bit from when she's Jasper and when she's Gecko.
Being only sixteen, she's still got some growing to do, of course, but since she looks a lot like her mother already, she's pretty sure she won't be getting much taller. Or, unfortunately, bigger in other areas, either. But Jasper is a little on the short side, about five two, her hair helping give her some height - and whatever heeled shoes she grabs.

When they talk to me, though, they might make note of...
Jasper Collins never has, and likely never will, care about academics. She never wanted to be the top score in class; as long as she passed with high enough grades to make her parents happy, she considered it good enough. Whether or not this comes from being the middle child, and the only mutant in a human family, she's never thought to reflect on it. Probably not; Jasper just considers herself not a 'book nerd', and she's fine with that. She'd much rather compare and contrast outfits and stripes vs solid band decal shirts than Venn diagrams or boring old Victorian poems or some junk. Jasper does have one passion related to school: she wants to become a fashion designer, or an artist. Or both! She hasn't decided yet. Playing with clothes is so much fun, but then again, so is painting...it's so hard to choose! She's gotta get through high school first, though.
That might be easier if she'd actually attend class...
Going hand in hand with her lack of anything approaching interest in school books and tests, Jasper has to be hunted down and pressed into going to class. She shows up for tests and finals, because she has to, and if she likes the class, the teacher, or she has friends in that class, she might show up on other days, too. (It's probably a good thing Jas is friendly and outgoing; otherwise she might not show up to class at all.) On the flip side, she likes to attend any Danger room sessions; mostly to show off her mutant abilities. Being able to scurry around the walls and ceiling freely is incredibly useful - of course, Gecko uses those skills more to play pranks and scare people in the mansion, but they're also useful helping her to avoid being hit by the paint ball 'bullets'.
In between her sparse attendance record and more frequent shopping sessions, Gecko likes to host parties and get-together's - before discovering her active mutant gene, it was with her big social circle in Chicago, but now that she's at Xaviers' Jas has had to shrink it down to whoever she can get to come from Xaviers' and the surrounding communities. Still, smaller than she's used to, they're still lively - no matter if they have mutant powers or not, teenagers left to their own devices have a way of tearing into the few free weekend hours they get like no-one else.

Now, as for those people I'm related to, well, I've got...
Parents: Myra Cane-nee-Collins, mother, alive, human. Justin Collins, father, alive, human.
_____ Collins, older brother, alive, likely human. ____ Collins, younger sister, alive, hasn't yet shown signs of mutation.

The things I'm good at? Glad you asked...
Jasper is terrific at organizing things. Whether it's parties, group projects, or her closet, she's all over it. Give her a couple of minutes and she can give you a list of who should do which part of the project, what clothes should go where and why, and where to find the best, cheapest streamers. Plus who to invite and who to avoid, always a crucial must when planning a party that you don't want to get crashed by parent, cop, or teacher. Her tendency to bounce back up when things don't go her way is another good skill; she doesn't let failure get her down, even if the failure is big or small!
She's also good at putting together outfits; not only for herself but also for friends, family, that person walking down the street who should definitely not be wearing a purple striped vest with that tie. Jasper's creativity knows no bounds - not even personal space bubble bounds. She will and has gone up to classmates she doesn't even know yet and given them advice on their outfits; sometimes it turns out badly for her, but that's just the way she is, and Jasper figures if they don't want her obviously perfect and totally right advice, then it's not her fault, is it?

But I'm not completely perfect...
Jasper has issues with personal space. The issue being, she gets excited about something and completely forgets that other people have it. She's been tossed around or accidentally hit when she startles some students, and yet, it hasn't acted as a deterrent for her to stop it; if anything, she just shoulders it off and keeps going, dragging them along into whatever scheme she was excited about in the first place after everyone's sure she's okay. That's one thing about Jasper; she bounces back fast. Of course, she's also hard-headed, a downside to her personality that tends to get the sometimes-scaled young woman into trouble - like her tendency to skip classes she doesn't think are interesting.
Jasper also has a lack of tact; she will straight-up tell something their outfit is ugly and they need to change ASAP. Or tell a teacher that the reason she hasn't shown up to even one of their classes the last two weeks is because they aren't teaching anything interesting and she doesn't see why she needs to waste her time with it when she could be doing some more constructive, or interesting. Like re-arranging her closet for the umpteenth time, or sleeping, or doing homework for the classes she needs to take to pass the semester. (The one class Jasper always attends is her elective; Art.)

I guess you want to know about what sets me apart from most of the population, huh? Well...
Gecko is Jasper's codename, and with good reason; when her mutation activates, her skin has the same texture and grey-green color as that of a common gecko, a lizard. She also has the useful power of being able to stick to almost anything - so far, the party girl mutant hasn't found anything she can't stick to!
Awesome, right? Well, not all the time...
She doesn't have entirely full control of her powers; sometimes when she's not paying attention, they turn on and she randomly sticks to things - papers, a plate, her desk... Sometimes, as well, Jasper does what she calls 'sleep sticking' - when she's sleeping at night, or taking a nap, she'll walk or crawl around and end up stuck to the wall or ceiling. This is a regular enough occurrence that she's taken up the habit of leaving thick pillows scattered around her room, just in case.
Her mutation is also fairly obvious when it's active; her skin turns textured and grey-green color while, when her power isn't active, she has normal human skin, albeit with lots of freckles.

If you see me out in the street, you'd notice I wear...
Jasper is working on making her own costume; she hasn't gotten any design quite right enough yet, but she's working on it! It would help if she could find materials that didn't cost so much to play with...
Her clothes vary, from the plain to the frilly, some torn and some in pristine condition - all kinds of colors and fabrics hang in her closet, are stuffed into her dresser, and hung over every available surface of her side of the room. Jasper doesn't just wear clothes: she collects them.
Her thinking goes that you never know when you're going to get to/need to wear something made of taffeta, or silk pajamas, or terribly clashing 70's shirts she's inherited from her family...some that look suspiciously like what some of the teachers wear. With all of that, her outfits tend to be colorful and, while not always with loud, bright colors, they do tend to be at least fashionable.
Along that line of collecting, she has different accessories - bracelets, earrings, bangles, anklets, all kind of footwear and silly socks. She tests out different outfits on friends, and will always give away clothes to someone who needs them (or who she thinks would look good in something particular, too). Her Christmas and birthday gifts tend to be shirts, goofy socks, sometimes sparkly scarves.

Maybe some of that comes from my past...
Jasper grew up as a normal kid. Her parents are in a medium-high income bracket; that' show she is currently able to afford so many clothes and shoes and things. She is also one of the students at the Institute whose family pays a tuition - for most students, whose family tend to be poor or lower/middle class, tuition isn't an option, and the school is able to waive it (because not training kids who can explode things with their mind is even less of an option). But because her folks have money, they do pay a tuition. Nothing huge; it's calculated to fit budget...and anything Jas breaks while in attendance. So far she hasn't broken anything!
Jasper was always a good child; bright and energetic, bubbly. Being a middle child, she always had someone to play with - an older sibling to follow around, and younger one to make play with her when nobody else in the neighborhood wanted to. Her childhood was fairly normal; her parents had only just started talking at the dinner table about the recent up-tick in mutant children when, a few weeks later, Jas herself ran out of the bathroom at home, yelling for Mommy. Originally, her parents thought it might be some sort of rash; Jasper's powers hadn't 'kicked in' all at once, you see.
They evolved to fruition over the course of a couple of weeks. Originally, her parents and the family doctor thought she had some kind of rash. She hadn't traveled out of the country, and as the 'rash' spread, they grew more puzzled and alarmed. It didn't hurt; even when it flickered in and out and started randomly sticking to whatever she held it against, it didn't hurt unless someone tried to pull her off of it. A few DNA tests later, and a few representatives were knocking on the Collins's' door. After turning away some government suits - some more shady than others - her parents were more than happy to send their little girl off to get help and control at Xaviers' Institute for the Gifted.
Jasper's been attending Xavier's for the past five years; she's grown used to the hallways and alcoves. She knows where most of the classrooms are, which ones are abandoned and which ones people make out in - and where to hide from teachers when she doesn't feel like going to class (she's built up a stash of things to keep herself amused, since she doesn't go to a good majority of her classes).

You want to meet me? It's your lucky day - here's a sneak peek...
Jasper stretched the scrunchy out between her fingers on one hand, aiming. One eye was closed, head tilted to the side; her bangs fell messily around her face, and the teenager giggled as she breathed in and let her soft projectile fling itself across the room, bouncing onto the dresser across the room. It was a double-bed room; right now the sole occupant was Jasper herself, but with more and more mutants coming into their powers, she'd been told by the teachers that she might be getting a roommate soon. Hopefully she would be nice, or at least easy to get along with - although Jasper did pride herself on getting along with people, so she knew it wouldn't be hard. Who didn't like a good party? Plus she had all kinds of clothes, and having a roommate meant she would have someone to dress up in them - besides herself, again.
Hearing the bell ring - too loud, like always - Jasper rolled her eyes and groaned. Rolling off of her bed, the mutant ran a comb through her hair and debated on her dress choices; her chair and desk held a mix of school books, notepads, and odds and ends like the scrunchy she'd thrown; her closet had shirts and dresses; in her dresser was where Jasper found the sundress that she picked. It was a bright teal, a nice flowing material that brought out the natural tan of her skin, enhanced by actual suntan, her dark hair and lively brown eyes making a good contrast. Jasper picked up the scrunchy and examined it; just the right color to match! Pleased, she hummed, closing her eyes as she turned 'on' her mutation. Fling her hand and watching the scrunchy stay in place made Jasper laugh, and the thundering of other students in the hallway made her remember that she had classes to get to. Or to avoid; Chemistry was her first class of the day, and while she didn't mind the orderliness of chemistry, she wasn't very big on getting to class on time at eight in the morning. Or at all.
Shrugging, Jasper checked herself in the mirror - bedhead was okay, dress and hair tie looked cute, books, books, aha, Chemistry book on the floor by her bed, grab a notebook, slip on some sandals - and out the door she went, humming to herself as she joined the throngs of students heading in every direction; Xavier's wasn't quite brimming, but it held a lot of students from around the world, with all kinds of mutations. Jasper closed her eyes again and turned hers off; going from green-grey scales to normal freckled human skin again, she shoved her books into her satchel and took off down the hallway just as the warning bell rang.
